SOILWORK‘s new album is the first to feature guitarist Peter Wicherssince his return to the band in 2008, as well as the studio debut with axeman Sylvain Coudret, who also joined in 2008.
The recording process for “The Panic Broadcast” was overseen byWichers, who recently took a moment to talk about what it was like to produce his own band after working with so many other great artists.
“Producing SOILWORK was great challenge for me but also one of the greatest experiences of my career,” he said. “I can honestly say that I’ve never worked this hard on any record that I’ve produced, but it was all worth it. I am super-happy with the performances from all the guys, and I don’t think SOILWORK has ever sounded this good.
“My approach for this record was to try and keep an open mind to the overall sonic picture without letting my own ego take over (I am a guitar player after all, haha). By doing so, I think everyone on this record got a chance to shine, and that was my main goal.
“I’m super-proud of this record and I know that even if you’re an ‘old-school’ or ‘new’ listener to SOILWORK, this album has something for both. There are some insane fast and furious songs with insane blast beats, as well as groove. There’s also a balance with songs that have some beautiful guitars/vocals and keyboard melodies.
“This is the best album SOILWORK has ever done!”

EVILE ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE DATES WITH GAMA BOMB, BONDED BY BLOOD AND FORBIDDEN

As promised to the audiences who came out to see them on recent tours with KREATOR and OVERKILL, UK thrash act, EVILE have announced a limited number of North American headline dates. They will be playing these shows with support from fellow labelmates in thrash, GAMA BOMB and BONDED BY BLOOD. All 3 bands have also been announced as support for a winter tour to be headlined by veteran thrash act, FORBIDDEN.
For the first time in many years, 3 EARACHE bands will share the stage with one another on a major North American tour. These shows, along with the previously announced Killfest dates with OVERKILL mark the 2nd major US treks for EVILE and BONDED BY BLOOD. It will also be GAMA BOMB‘s first run in the US, making the chances of tour shenanigans between bands and total thrash overload for the fans even higher.

Legendary Heavy Metal Vocalist RONNIE JAMES DIO Dies

Wendy Dio, wife/manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.
“Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.
“We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.
“Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.
“Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”
It was only a month ago that Dio, 67, spoke about his battle with cancer with the Artisan News Service on the “black carpet” of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which took place on April 8 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. When asked about how he had been feeling since he was diagnosed with the disease late last year, Dio said, “Well, I feel good and bad at times. It’s a long process. Chemotherapy is a… I never realized what a difficult thing it was to go through. It’s a real cumulative effect — the more you have, the more it piles up on top and it takes longer and longer to get over it. I find it very difficult to eat. I don’t like to eat anyway, so I guess that’s OK. But I know I have to. But this makes it very, very hard. But if you’re determined to beat it, then you have to go with what you believe is going to beat it for you, and in this case it’s that. I go to a great hospital in Houston called M.D. Anderson, which I think is the best hospital in the world, I have the best doctor in the world,Dr. Ajani, who I really trust and I really believe in, so I think I’ve done all the right things. It makes me feel positive about my life and positive that there is a lot more of it to live.”
Earlier this month, HEAVEN & HELL canceled its summer tour plans in Europe due to Dio‘s treatment for stomach cancer. The band said in a statement that Dio wasn’t “well enough to tour this summer. We hope that everyone understands and want to thank fans and industry colleagues for their continuing support at this time.”
Born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Ronnie James Dio had performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects included the collective fundraiser “Hear ‘n Aid”. He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the “devil’s horns” hand gesture in metal culture. He was most recently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also included former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first and only studio album, “The Devil You Know”, was released on April 28, 2009.
In April, Dio appeared at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles to accept the award for “Best Vocalist.” As members of ALICE IN CHAINS presented the award to him, the crowd chanted, “Dio! Dio! Dio!Dio!”

Gory ‘Death Metal’ Teacher Too Gruesome For School
The Local reports: A trainee high school teacher in Stuttgart who moonlights in a gory death metal band that includes naked, blood-smeared women in its live act, is being threatened with dismissal unless he gives up his music career.
By day, Thomas Gurrath, 29, is a trainee teacher in politics, history and ethics at Hegel Gymnasium in the city’s Vaihingen district. By night, he isThomas “The Bloodbeast” Gurrath, frontman for the gory metal bandDEBAUCHERY.
Now, he’s been given an ultimatum: it’s one or the other. According to daily Bild on Friday, education authorities have told Gurrath he will have to give up the teacher traineeship he began on January 1 unless he quits his band.
Clemens Homoth-Kuhs, spokesman for the regional education authorities, told the paper: “We have in the end agreed that Mr. Gurrathis now to stop his traineeship, but have told him that he can start again under certain conditions.”

OVERKILL Announces More ‘Killfest 2010′ Tour Dates; Support From FORBIDDEN

The trek will consist of stops in markets where the band has not been in a long time, including several dates in the North Carolina and Florida. OVERKILL‘s new album, “Ironbound”, sold 4,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 192 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
OVERKILL‘s previous album, “Immortalis”, opened with 2,800 units back in October 2007 .
OVERKILL‘s top-selling album of the SoundScan era (1991-) is“Horrorscope”, which has shifted more than 120,000 copies in the U.S. since its 1991 release (there is no SoundScan data available for LPs sold prior to 1991).
“Ironbound” was released on February 9 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). The CD, which was issued in Europe on January 29 viaNuclear Blast Records, was mixed by PAIN/HYPOCRISY mainmanPeter Tägtgren and is described in a press release as “a true thrasher-piece.”
OVERKILL filmed a video for the song “Bring Me The Night” on January 9 in Brooklyn, New York with director Kevin Custer (HATEBREED,TESTAMENT, SUFFOCATION).
FORBIDDEN recently entered Sonic Room/Audio Voyage studios in Livermore, California to begin recording its as-yet-untitled fifth studio album for a late 2010 release via Nuclear Blast Records.

SEVENDUST’s ‘Cold Day Memory’ Cracks U.S. Top 15
Sevendust - Cold Day Memory
“Cold Day Memory”, the new album from Atlanta, Georgia’sSEVENDUST, sold around 27,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart.
SEVENDUST‘s last album, “Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow”, opened with 25,000 units back in April 2008 to land at position No. 19.
“Cold Day Memory” was released on April 20 on the band’s own 7Bros. Records, through Warner Music Group‘s Independent Label Group. The CD — produced by Grammy Award winner Johnny K (DISTURBED,STAIND, 3 DOORS DOWN, PLAIN WHITE T’S) — is the group’s first new album with its original lineup back together with guitarist Clint Lowery‘s return after his departure in 2003.
While SEVENDUST‘s last few efforts were mainly heavy and rhythmic, the new songs balance brutality with textural passages and infectious counter-melodies. There are even fleet-fingered guitar solos. But whether confronting the listener with double-bass drums and staccato power chords or using melodic arpeggios and soft brush strokes to sweeten the sound of Witherspoon’s multi-faceted vocals, SEVENDUST sounds excited, energized and ready to take on the world.
All five band members contributed to the lyrics on “Cold Day Memory”, and the songs were works in progress up until the moment they were recorded. In the end, the band crafted songs that encapsulated their experiences with the world and one another. Witherspoon, who recently became a father, penned some lines about commitment and responsibility, while Rose, who was going through a painful divorce, wrote lyrics about heartbreak and disillusionment. The album’s first single, “Unraveling”, was co-written by Lowery and Dave Bassett(SHINEDOWN, PUDDLE OF MUDD) and is about the collapse of a relationship, while “Confession” indirectly addresses Lowery quitting and returning to the band.

Tour founder and booking agent Ash Avildsen spoke to MetalSucks about how Summer Slaughter fits in (or doesn’t) with this summer’s other metal tours. “I don’t think those tours really compete for many of the same fans as Summer Slaughter,” he said. “This is focused on underground extreme metal rather than mainstream metal. All of our shows also have air conditioning.”
He added, “It’s a much younger lineup this year rather than a lot of older bands in the headlining positions. Tickets will be much cheaper for this same reason, coming in at under $20 in advance almost everywhere with the exception of L.A. and NYC. Most will be $18.”

ENTHRONED To Tour U.S. This Summer
Belgian black metallers ENTHRONED have issued the following update:
“Finally after nine years, ENTHRONED will come back to the United States this summer! Dates will come soon and we will reveal the support acts in the meantime. Also, ENTHRONED will team up with Norway’sGORGOROTH for the South American portion of their world tour this September. The tour will be around Brazil. Soon dates will be posted.”
ENTHRONED will embark on a European tour with SHINING between October 20 and November 7. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.
ENTHRONED released its eighth album, “Pentagrammaton”, on March 22 via Regain Records.

ICARUS WITCH Bassist Says PETER STEELE’s Work With TYPE O NEGATIVE Was ‘Groundbreaking’
Bassist Jason Myers of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based melodic metallers ICARUS WITCH has released the following statement:
“Peter Steele, a true icon, enigma, musical genius and hell of a nice man who I had the pleasure of talking with on several occasions dating back to the early ’90s, has reportedly died of heart failure at the age of 48.
“As of 5 a.m., the news is still unconfirmed, but despite a similar rumor in 2005, it appears the reports of his passing are true.
“His work with TYPE O NEGATIVE was groundbreaking and a large influence on myself and other members of ICARUS WITCH.
“As the song goes, ‘Everything Dies’ but know that the music lives on…”
ICARUS WITCH recently parted ways with vocalist Matthew Bizilia and replaced him with Christopher Shaner.
ICARUS WITCH‘s new lineup will make its live debut at Pittsburgh’s Hard Rock Cafe on Friday, May 28, where the band will be opening for LIZZY BORDEN.
“Draw Down The Moon” was released on February 9 through Cleopatra Records.

BIOHAZARD Frontman: PETER STEELE Was ‘My Single Biggest Musical Influence’
BIOHAZARD bassist/vocalist Evan Seinfeld has released the following statement via Twitter:
“[Rest in peace], my friend, brother, and mentor, Peter Steele, TYPE O NEGATIVE, CARNIVORE… my single biggest musical influence… who named BIOHAZARD.
“I fucking miss you so much already… I love you, brother. I hope you are in a better place.”
As previously reported, TYPE O NEGATIVE keyboardist Josh Silverconfirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET that Peter Steele passed away yesterday (Wednesday, April 14) at the age of 48. No official cause of death has yet been released, but it is believed that Steele died of heart failure.
Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. He stood 6′ 7″ (201 cm) tall, and had a low, bass-heavy voice, which was one of the most recognizable features in TYPE O NEGATIVE‘s music.
Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal groupFALLOUT and the thrash band CARNIVORE.
