As part of the ongoing celebration of their 20th anniversary, Sweden’s OPETH is releasing live footage and audio from the band’s recent performance at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall. In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, due out 9/21/10, is a fierce testament to Opeth’s continued success in the progressive metal community.
Twenty years and nine records into their legendary career, Opeth’s “progressively creative spirit” (ARTISTdirect) remains unwavering, propelling the band through the “Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology” tour, which brought the Swedish titans to six of the world’s most unique venues, and now, with the release of In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, into the homes of their fans.
The performance at the Royal Albert Hall (recorded on the 5th of April, 2010) includes two sets, the first consisting of the band performing 2000’s now-classic, breakthrough epic, Blackwater Park in its entirety, and the second, a chronologically arranged selection of material from the rest of Opeth’s extensive catalogue, totaling almost three hours of music. It is, like the rest of Opeth’s greatest work, “purposefully warped in all the right places” (Decibel). The front cover artwork concept pays tribute to Deep Purple´s Concerto for Group and Orchestra, underlining the band’s longstanding love for their prog-rock roots.
Thinking back to the concert, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt says “Opeth had a magical night playing the Royal Albert Hall. It was a dream come true, and now afterwards, it still feels like a dream. We got it all on film, and this, our third live recording and DVD might be my personal favorite. One couldn’t help to think of all the fantastic artists that played there over the years. Looking back at this night of celebration brings me fond memories of our 20th anniversary—this package is the delayed birthday present. Enjoy!”

Montreal extreme metal purists ION DISSONANCE have completed work on their new album, “Cursed”, for an August 24 North American release via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded at .357 Productionswith ION DISSONANCE guitar player Antoine Lussier at the production helm.
Commented vocalist Kevin: “Since ‘Cursed’ is now recorded, mixed and mastered, we want to take a moment to clarify a few points.
“We have been getting asked a lot of questions and we want to make sure that we are all on the same level and answer these questions once and for all.
“The official release date in the U.S and Canada is scheduled for August 24th.
“A few release dates have been getting thrown around and we wanted to put the questions to rest. Also, our new friends at Basick Records will be releasing ‘Cursed’ in Europe. The record will be out there on August 23rd and finally, Doom Patrol in Japan will be releasing the record there on August 24th as well. Both the European and the Japanese versions will have their own exclusive tracks, but more info on that later.
“To fill you in on this situation, we were originally planning on an earlier release date, but unfortunately we encountered a few obstacles along the way, mainly mastering the disc. This made an earlier release date impossible. Another perfect example is the artwork. We wanted to work with Paul Romano but he is obviously very busy and we felt that waiting for his services was a better option than looking elsewhere. We lovePaul‘s work and are insistent on having him follow up his work on ‘Minus The Herd’. So now that we have the artwork in hand we can definitely say that the wait was worth it.
“All this to say that when ION DISSONANCE decided to get together over a year ago to come out with our best work to date, we wanted to take every little detail into consideration to make sure this record was everything we ever wanted an ION DISSONANCE record to be.
“With that being said, we’ll move on to another situation which needs to be addressed. After three long years of winging it as a four piece, we are now back to five members. Yannick Desgroseillers (formerly fromTEARS FROM THE SKY) has now joined the ranks and will be playing bass, a role Sebastien has been filling in on since Xavier left the band. This switch will allow us to play some new songs on our upcoming shows, which to us is an unbelievable excitement.
“We can’t wait to get out on the road this summer and see some familiar faces. It’s been too long.”

Maik on “Given In Death”: “The topic this song is about is a very sensitive one (mercy killing) and Sabine‘s voice just goes along so well with the feeling we tried to create for this piece. It was a pleasure working together with such a talented band as DEADLOCK.”

Los Angeles cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY are set to kick off the second leg of their American “Fear Campaign” tour on May 14 at The Rialto Theater in Tucson, Arizona. The trek, also featuring PRONG andTHY WILL BE DONE, will visit twenty cities before it concludes at The Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia.
After a successful performance at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles on April 8, scheduled for television broadcast via VH1 on May 22, FEAR FACTORY flew to Oslo, Norway for a eight-show run withMETALLICA. The band, like many others, is resorting to travel by land and sea, with more than 20,000 flights cancelled on the European continent last week due to the volcanic activity happening in Iceland. Guitarist Dino Cazares notes, “It took us over 24 hours to get from Oslo to Riga in Latvia with METALLICA and their crew of 50-plus people on a charter bus and ferry. All flights were cancelled because of the volcanic ash in the air.” Vocalist Burton C. Bell adds, “We took a ferry from Oslo to get to Latvia. It was the METALLICA party boat; good times. We are basically taking buses and trains everywhere so if you can catch us, catch us.”
FEAR FACTORY‘s new single, “Final Exit”, follows the success of earlier metal radio singles “Powershifter” and “Fear Campaign”. Two special edits of the eight-minute song are now playing via three of AOL Radio‘s online music channels. Rhys Fulber with Cazares and Bell realized the edits while the band was touring the U.S. in late March. The song has already received specialty airplay via Active Rock stations KUPD in Phoenix, Arizona and KEYJ in Abilene, Texas.
Lyrically, “Final Exit” draws attention to the much criticized and sensitive issue of self-deliverance as introduced in the 1992 book by Derek Humphry, founder of the Hemlock Society and past president of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies. Bell explains, “Dino and I have created the edits to condense the song into a time specific for radio. We are very happy fans are loving the song for it is one that touches upon the importance of the freedom of choice and personal liberty that all human beings should be allowed. The song hopefully will create awareness for the support group Final Exit Network,” the song’s namesake. Passionately Bell continues, “The right to life extends beyond life itself. If the medical community cannot, and will not find a cure due to cost effectiveness, then humanity needs the choice of a dignified, self-deliverance from continual, painful treatments from debilitating disease. We have been contacted by many fans who connect with this song on many levels, and with ‘Final Exit’ being played on the radio, we hope others will also become aware, understand, and enjoy this song.”
FEAR FACTORY‘s new album, “Mechanize”, was released in the U.S. on February 9, 2010 via Candlelight Records. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY,PARADISE LOST), was mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY).
FEAR FACTORY‘s current lineup — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who was credited on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD andZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK,STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — made its live debut on December 4, 2009 at Espaço Lux in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brazil.

“Caedium”, the second album from from ENEMY OF THE SUN, the German band featuring guitarist Waldemar Sorychta — former member of GRIP INC./DESPAIR and producer for such bands as LACUNA COILand MOONSPELL — will be released in North America on June 22 via The End Records and in Europe on May 28 through Massacre Records.
A song from “Caedium” entitled “Another End Of The Rainbow” is available for streaming at this location.
ENEMY OF THE SUN vocalist Jules Näveri (also in PROFANE OMEN) recently stated about the forthcoming CD, “We recorded 14 songs plus intro and outro. Most likely we’re putting 12 songs on the album and it’s not going to be an easy pick. I like all of ‘em and it’s going to be a battle of choosing the best ones ’cause they’re all the best ones.
“I have to say what we’re doing at the moment is very spectacular. So much emotions in this album. As you probably agree with me, we have never done things the most ordinary way — ordinary equals boring.
“This album is definately going to be much heavier than the debut. It has parts for you to scream for, it has parts for you to cry for. We also have a very strong working title for the album which we’re most probably going to keep.”
ENEMY OF THE SUN‘s last album, “Shadows”, was released in North America via The End Records on January 22, 2008 with an exclusive bonus track called “Enemigo del Sol”.
Sorychta previously stated about the band, “I call ENEMY OF THE SUNmy family because in a family you have to feel comfortable. If not, it’s not a good family. ENEMY is a good one. It’s the way I wake up and feel the excitment about this band. It’s the way I go to bed and want to stay awake because of this band. Music without limits, pure power saved in every note, deepest emotions bound in tones, burning pleasure in each single tune.”

U.K. thrashers ONSLAUGHT are currently writing material for the follow-up to 2007′s “Killing Peace”, tentatively due later this year.
Commented guitarist Nige Rockett: “Yes, we have an album title. Yes, we have a release date. Yes, we have a producer. Yes, we have studio time booked, and yes, we have a new…. Hahahahaha, not telling ya.
“It’s certainly not gonna be ‘Killing Peace 2′, that’s for sure. It’s old school, it’s contemporary, it’s ONSLAUGHT. It’s gonna be faster at times, definitely heavier with some songs having their more intricate moments, but not too intricate, ‘cuz that means compromising the violence which this album is really gonna be all about: pure unadulterated musical violence.
“We’re gonna be using several different guitar tunings to add some sonic variety and lots of truly stunning solos coming your way from Mr. [Andy]Rosser-Davies. He’s on fire at the moment and being pushed to the limits in terms of creativity and originality.
“No, Andy Sneap will not be producing the new album, but we have found another perfect partner to work with us this time around. He’s a huge ONSLAUGHT fan and will definitely deliver the crushing brutality we are looking for on production front.
“Once again ONSLAUGHT will deliver a very different-sounding album to its predecessor. There will not be 11-12 tracks on the record; it’s not something ONSLAUGHT do. We have always preferred quality over quantity every time — no fillers, all killers here. But you will more than get VFM (Violence For Money) guaranteed.”
ONSLAUGHT recorded its performance at the Damnation Festival on November 22, 2008 in Leeds, U.K. for a live CD, “Live Damnation”, which was released on July 20, 2009 through Candlelight Records.
An e-card for the album can be accessed at this location.
“Killing Peace” was released in March 2007 via Candlelight Records. The CD was recorded at Backstage studio in Derbyshire, England with producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, MACHINE HEAD, ARCH ENEMY,NEVERMORE).

The cover artwork for “The Panic Broadcast”, the new album from Swedish metallers SOILWORK, can be viewed below.
Commented SOILWORK vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid: “With the artwork for this album we wanted to capture the illusion of the mind, misconceptions and the state of panic. Bartosz Nalezinski has made a perfect job realizing this idea.
“The cover symbolizes the emperor of the illusion with two servants to assist the misconception. The background illustrates the abstract chaos that slowly takes over. Inside the booklet you can follow the psychological journey that brings you ‘The Panic Broadcast’.”
“The Panic Broadcast” was mixed at Fascination Street studio in Örebro, Sweden with Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, PARADISE LOST, BLOODBATH).
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. Late For The Kill, Early For The Slaughter
02. 2 Lives Worth Of Reckoning
03. The Thrill
04. Deliverance Is Mine
05. Night Comes Clean
06. King Of The Threshold
07. Let This River Flow
08. Epitome
09. The Akuma Afterglow
10. Enter Dog Of Pavlov

Due in Europe on June 25 via Nuclear Blast Records, the long-awaited follow-up to 2007′s “Sworn To A Great Divide” was produced byWichers.
SOILWORK‘s new album will be the first to feature Wichers since his return to the band in 2008, as well as the studio debut with guitaristSylvain Coudret, who also joined in 2008.

“Icarus Lives!”, the new video from Washington D.C.’s PERIPHERY, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in Boston with Killswitch Productions directors Mike Pecci and Ian McFarland (FEAR FACTORY,MESHUGGAH).
“Wait until you see this video,” says Pecci. “Loaded with epic shots, heroic stances, and awesome band performances, I will say that it isIan‘s and my most abstract piece to date! Working with the guys fromPERIPHERY was a blast!”
States guitarist Alex Bois: “It was an honor to work with Ian, Mike and crew! As this was our first video, we didn’t realize how exciting the filming process could be. Now, we fully understand where all the hype surrounding these guys comes from and we WILL be working with them on future projects!”
Combing the complex atypical rhythms and technical precision of math rock with the sensational brutality of progressive metal, PERIPHERY will unleash its self-titled debut on April 20 through Sumerian Records. A track from the CD, “The Walk”, is now available for streaming on the band’s MySpace page.
“‘The Walk’ is a very special song for us,” says guitarist Misha Mansoor. “Apart from being one of the oldest ones, it is also one of the heaviest ones we have to offer, and we love playing it live and wanted to share the album version with all the fans so they could enjoy it as well!”
Founded in 2004 by guitarist Misha Mansoor, PERIPHERY seems to always be drawing from a constant stream of inspiration. To date, the band has recorded over 100 songs and continues to deliver new tracks on a regular basis, each time pushing the envelope on its compositional structures.
Taking the DIY approach to getting their music heard, PERIPHERYgarnered the attention of metal fans across the globe by deciding to make all of its songs available to listeners online. Inspired by its fans’ feedback and fervent requests, the band frequently adds new music and video blogs, constantly cultivating a stronger online presence.
This continuous exposure on the web, combined with a strong hometown following, provided PERIPHERY the opportunity to showcase its explosive live show and music on national tours such as Summer Slaughter, the Thrash and Burn Tour and select dates with BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, DARKEST HOUR, LAMB OF GOD and DESPISED ICON.

The drum tracks for “The Obsidian Conspiracy” were completed in the group’s hometown of Seattle with SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers, who previously worked with Dane on the singer’s solo debut, “Praises to the War Machine”. Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap(MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD) once again handled mixing duties.
The captivating and dynamic cover art was once again created by the great Travis Smith (OPETH, KATATONIA) and can be viewed below.
NEVERMORE also recorded two cover versions during the sessions: “The Crystal Ship” (THE DOORS) and “Transmission” (THE TEA PARTY)
According to Dane, the song “And The Maiden Spoke” “is going to blow your minds; it’s twisted, progressive lunatic fringe riffing with vicious hooklines.”
He added: “These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and Andy will result in something very, very special.”
In an interview with Cerebral Metalhead, Dane said of “The Crystal Ship” cover, “THE DOORS song was not my original choice. I really wanted to do this song called ‘Waiting For the Sun’.
“When I listen to songs, of course, since I’m a lyricist, I gravitate towards cover songs (for which) I admire the lyrics. Jeff [Loomis] being a guitarist, he goes for the guitar stuff that he thinks is really cool. And that’s how we came on THE DOORS thing.
“‘Crystal Ship’, originally he [Jeff] had taken the approach of making it a little heavy. And I tried to work with it and I said, ‘Jeff, I don’t think this is working. I think maybe what we should try is an all-acoustic approach to the song.’ And when we did it, he was like, ‘Dude, you’re totally right.’ And he was like doing five-layered guitar parts over this.
“When people hear it, it doesn’t sound like THE DOORS anymore. I think that’s what people expect when we do cover songs. ‘Cause we’ve been known to deconstruct and recreate more than one song.”

Germany’s Massacre Records has set an August 27 European release date for “Invidious Dominion”, the new album from Florida death metal veterans MALEVOLENT CREATION. The effort will made available as a regular CD; digipack with bonus material; and vinyl LP.
MALEVOLENT CREATION‘s new album is being recorded at Mana Recording Studios (CANNIBAL CORPSE, VITAL REMAINS,GOATWHORE) in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan(MORBID ANGEL, HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE). The band has also just signed a management deal with Extreme Management Group(SUFFOCATION, ORIGIN).
Commented the group: “After over 20 years in existence, and now having the most solid lineup in years, we really wanted to make sure that with this new album we elevated the band in every way. Getting good management was crucial and Extreme Management Group has a great track record.
“Erik had been talking to us since ‘Doomsday X’ to record us, and withGus Rios (drums) being the band full-time now, we didn’t want him to have the responsibility of producing the album as well as writing and playing. Erik really understands what we are about, and has all of the same thoughts about recording as us. It really couldn’t be a better working situation.
“We’ve said it before, but this album really is without a doubt is the most relentless, focused and brutal MALEVOLENT CREATION album ever! We really went back to our roots, not only as a band, but as fans of metal. We wrote an album of songs that we as fans of brutal music would want to hear.”
Crash Music released a limited-edition digipack from MALEVOLENT CREATION entitled “Essentials” in February 2009. The package features 38 tracks on three discs, with over 110 minutes of “pure brutality.”
MALEVOLENT CREATION‘s “Lost Commandments” DVD was released in August 2008 in Europe via Massacre Records. The one-hour, 45-minute disc features two complete shows from the band — Party.San Open Air festival (August 9-11, 2007 in Bad Berka, Germany) and Paris, France (2004).
MALEVOLENT CREATION‘s latest album, “Doomsday X”, was released in the U.S. in July 2007 via Nuclear Blast Records and in Europe in August 2007 via Massacre Records. The CD was recorded and engineered at Mercury Recording Studios in Pompano Beach, Florida by longtime friend and producer (and sometimes session member) Gus Rios, and is said to be the most diverse MALEVOLENT CREATION album recorded to date and “without a doubt their fastest!!” Mick Thomson, guitarist for SLIPKNOT, contributed a “ripping” guitar solo to the song“Deliver My Enemy”.

I love the first album but I brought way better riffs to the table this time and really brought a different vocal style on a lot of tracks. I think this new album is much more memorable and that the songs are really catchy but still heavy and raw.
“CROWBAR has some European touring to do but we may squeeze someKINGDOM OF SORROW shows in when I am not touring withHATEBREED this year.”
