While ICED EARTH‘s 1998 album “Something Wicked This Way Comes” provided a general overview of the story guitarist/songwriterJon Schaffer has been conceptualizing for well over a decade, the saga was fully brought to life with the release of the back-to-back conceptual albums “Framing Armageddon” and “The Crucible of Man”. The albums provided answers to mysteries the previous releases created, and the timeliness of the story in today’s world were guaranteed to keep people thinking and guessing. Schaffer‘s ability to convey the central themes and events of the story without always revealing exactly “why” characters’ decisions are made and “how” events come to pass will keep fans of the saga coming back as future mediums for the “Something Wicked” storyline are revealed.
The whole saga is now included in this high-quality hardcover boxset (height 13 cm, depth 4.5 cm, width 14.5 cm) featuring the original digipak CDs “Framing Armageddon” and “The Crucible Of Man” as well as the original digipaks EPs “Overture Of The Wicked” and “I Walk Among You”. In addition, the boxset includes a bonus cardboard CD with one song from “Framing Armageddon” now sung by Matt Barlow and three previously unreleased live tracks from the Belgian Graspop Metal Meeting festival in 2008, also featuring Barlow on vocals. “American Carnage” will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, Oregon on September 4. TESTAMENT will be special guest on all shows. Tickets purchased for the “American Carnage” shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates.
Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase. However, new cities have been added to the “American Carnage” itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento. The confirmed, complete itinerary is below.
The “American Carnage” tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to SLAYER‘s vocalist/bassist Tom Araya‘s ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a cervical radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an anterior cervical discectomy with fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place early last week.
“The doctors said that Tom‘s surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success,” said Rick Sales, longtime SLAYER manager. “He’s home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably.”
Shortly after the surgery, SLAYER‘s Kerry King received a text fromTom: “Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better.”
The “American Carnage” tour will mark the first time that SLAYER,MEGADETH and TESTAMENT will have toured the U.S. together since 1991′s epic “Clash of the Titans” tour, making this truly a “must-see” event.
SLAYER recently announced the rescheduling of its headline tour in Europe, and MEGADETH and TESTAMENT are currently on tour together playing U.S. cities that will not be on the “American Carnage” itinerary.

WINDS OF PLAGUE Announces Details For NEVER SAY DIE! Headlining Tour
Los Angeles metallers WINDS OF PLAGUE continue their extensive worldwide touring schedule in support of “The Great Stone War” with another headlining trek, dubbed the Never Say Die! tour. This massive, month-long trek, which kicks off on January 23, also features Century Media labelmates DESPISED ICON alongside FOR TODAY, STRAY FROM THE PATH and THE WORLD WE KNEW.
Commented vocalist Johnny: “We have just passed the halfway mark on the ‘California Love’ tour and already the tour has proven to be a massive success, as well as a very memorable moment in WINDS OF PLAGUE history.
“This has been our first sole headliner, which is nerve-eracking in itself, but the WINDS OF PLAGUE soldiers have been strong in numbers and have been some of the most insane shows we have played to date. It’s been awesome to get back into some smaller clubs that we have played while we were coming up and re-visit our roots.
“This tour also marks the debut of keyboardist Alana Potocnik to the band. Alana‘s positive attitude and hungry work ethic is a breath of fresh air, with her talent and creative writing abilities new material will be nothing short of epic.
“With our return to Southern California for the December Decimation Fest still on the horizon, the ‘California Love’ tour will go down in our history as some of the best times of our lives and we thank our fans for making it all possible.
“We look forward to taking some time off for the holidays and then 2010 is the year of WINDS OF PLAGUE. It all starts with another headliner as we prepare for the Never Say Die! tour in January with the mightyDESPISED ICON, FOR TODAY and STRAY FROM THE PATH. We promise you it will be a night to remember, so check out our MySpacepage and be sure to come out, get sweaty and party your ass off.”
Added DESPISED ICON vocalist Alex Erian: “We’ve played some of our favourite shows ever on the last two Never Say Die! tours in Europe and are stoked to be part of its first annual U.S. edition.
“We haven’t toured with WINDS OF PLAGUE in over two years already. It’ll be good to hang out and rock out with those dudes again!
“Can’t wait to be back in the U.S. See you guys soon!”
Marco Walzel of Avocado Booking commented: “We really wanted to create an exciting tour package; that is why we created and developed the Never Say Die! brand. We wanted a tour that could feature the most diverse and powerful bands from all over the world under one banner. Its focus has always been about the music, the bands and the lifestyle that comes hand in hand with the more aggressive side of the punk rock and metal spectrum. It’s never sought to lose touch with its core audience and we’ve always strived to give great value for money to some of the most mind-blowing packages that we could possibly put together.
“It’s been a big success for us, growing and growing in Europe over the past few years and we’re really excited at where Never Say Die! is heading, with the New Year giving way to its first overseas appearance in the USA.”

Killswitch Engage Announce Winter Headline Tour With The Devil Wears Prada, Dark Tranquility
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, whose critically acclaimed, self-titled album Killswitch Engage debuted at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 chart earlier this summer, are headed out on the road once again.
Fresh off a summer trek as one of the main stage attractions of the second annual Rock Star Energy Mayhem Fest, KsE will take the show on the road for a headline trek across the US, which is their first for this album. The tour will begin on February 4 in their home state of Massachusetts and will cover significant ground across the country for seven weeks. To keep things interesting, KsE have elected to play smaller venues in a handful of cities in order to create a more intimate setting for their fans.
Joining Killswitch as main support will be Dayton, OH’s The Devil Wears Prada, who released their latest album With Roots Above and Branches Below via Ferret Music back in May 2009 and immediately followed with a hugely successful stint on last summer’s Warped Tour, resulting in a fanbase that has since grown exponentially. Also joining Killswitch on this run will be highly influential metal act Dark Tranquility, who hail from Gothenburg, Sweden. Dark Tranquility are set to release their anticipated new album We Are the Void through Century Media in March 2010.
In other KsE news, the song “The End of Heartache,” the title track from their 2004, Gold-certified release, will appear on Guitar Hero: Van Halen alongside tracks from acts like Foo Fighters, Weezer, Judas Priest and The Clash, among others.
KsE guitarist Adam D. weighed in on the tour saying, “We are stoked to come back to the US and shred with The Devil Wears Prada and Dark Tranquility. It’s been a while since we’ve headlined the States and we’re excited to play some new tunes for y’all. This tour is going to be wicked sweet!”
